Kenya conducted the initial round of a subnational anti-polio vaccination effort August 24-28, targeting over 1.8 million children under age 5. The drive was prompted by six polio cases detected among children at the Hagadera refugee camp in Garissa county. The first round took place in Garissa, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nairobi counties. Second and third rounds will be conducted in September and October, targeting over 5.6 million children in the aforementioned four counties and six additional counties: Lamu, Kitui, Machakos, Mandera, Tana River and Wajir.
