August 2023: Kenya rolls out 2nd phase of anti-cholera vaccine effort

Kenya rolled out the second phase of an anti-cholera vaccination campaign across eight counties on August 3-12, targeting 1.7 million people. The selected counties—Homa Bay, Kajiado, Marsabit, Nairobi, Wajir, Mandera, Machakos and Garissa—are those most impacted by an outbreak that has led to 196 deaths since October 2022, per local media. The first round of vaccination (in February) reached 2.2 million people above age 1 in Nairobi, Garissa, Tana River and Wajir. In Machakos, the exercise focused on Machakos GK prison, which has experienced several outbreaks. Kenya MOJA; The Guardian
