August 2023: Several states launch RI campaigns

Several Brazilian states launched integrated routine immunization campaigns in August as part of the health ministry’s National Movement for Vaccination, a nationwide catch-up initiative that debuted in February. The state of Rio de Janeiro started its effort on August 23, aiming to reach children and adolescents up to age 15. The multiweek campaign will focus on municipalities in the metropolitan region (Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Nilópolis, Nova Iguaçu, São João de Meriti, Baixada Fluminense and São Gonçalo), tackling diseases such as diphtheria, measles, pertussis, polio, rubella and tetanus. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, the campaign will also address HPV. The states of Maranhão and Roraima launched their campaigns earlier in August, while campaigns in the Federal District and Espírito Santo got rolling on August 26.
