February 2019: India will carry out polio campaigns despite shortage rumors

India will carry out polio campaigns despite shortage rumors: Local media quoted India’s health minister Preeti Sudan this month as saying the country has sufficient stocks to carry out polio vaccinations during its planned National Immunization Day on March 10.

Newspapers had speculated that plans for the campaign might be interrupted by last September’s recall of bivalent oral polio vaccines (OPV) manufactured by Bio-Med (because of alleged type-2 virus contamination) and a sharp increase this year in the price of inactivated polio vaccine.

However, the government is making OPV testing more stringent to assure quality in advance of the campaign, an official press release said. Business Today report; Government of India press release
