Nationwide vitamin A campaign begins in Bangladesh: Bangladeshi media reported this month the launch of a nationwide, five-day vitamin A campaign on February 9 to give capsules to all children aged between six and 59 months at 120,000 permanent and 20,000 mobile health centers across the country.
However, Daily Star reported the day after the launch that a 16-month-old boy in Jamalpur’s Sarishabari died hours after he was given vitamin A. The government has formed a three-member committee to investigate the child’s cause of death. According to the article, several hundred children in the region also reportedly fell sick after taking the capsules. Dhaka Tribune report; Daily Star report
