The Democratic Republic of the Congo conducted its first large-scale immunization campaign using novel oral polio vaccine type 2 from June 1-3, targeting more than 17 million children under age 5 in 20 of the country’s 26 provinces. DRC’s cases account for half of all cVDPV2 cases in WHO’s Africa Region, with 407 cases reported between the start of 2022 and May 2023. WHO’s regional Polio Eradication Programme has established geographic information systems and other tools to allow teams to map areas where health facilities are located, track vaccination teams and identify targeted children. A nationwide anti-polio vaccination effort is scheduled for July 2023. WHO AFRO
