SMC pooling experience in 3 health regions: Kankan, Mamou and Faranah
Background:
- SMC in children is an intervention included in the malaria control policy(i) A set of decisions or commitments to pursue courses of action aimed at achieving defined goals for improving health, stating or in Guinea.
- It is based on the recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2012 and targets children aged 3-59 months living in areas of high seasonal transmission of malaria.
- Since 2019, the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) with the support of its technical and financial partners, has initiated the integrationThe sharing of all or specific campaign components or functions by a specific program addressing a disease or health need with the of malaria intervention (EPI, Prenatal Consultation, malaria community case management, ITNs distribution to children under one year of old and pregnant women, Intermittent Preventive Treatment of pregnant women (IPTp)) targeting both mother-child) with the objective of improving health outcomes and effective use of resources.
- This strategy consists of capitalizing on household visits during the distribution of SP-AQ to verify the immunization status of children, the performance of prenatal visits, taking of SP by pregnant women, and screening and treatment of simple malaria cases at the community level. During the year 2020, pooling was carried out in the following districts: Kankan, Mandiana, Siguiri, Kouroussa, Dabola, Dinguiraye, Faranah, Mamou, Dalaba and Pita.
