September 2019: Ghana launches series of polio campaigns

In response to one confirmed case and two positive sewage samples of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 identified in July and August, Ghana launched a series of four-day polio campaigns this month, reaching children under 5 years of age in Greater Accra from September 11 to 14, and in the Northern, North East, Savanna, Upper East and Greater Accra Regions from September 25 to 28. The country will run another round from October 16 to 19, covering all districts in the Northern, North East, Savannah and Upper East Regions, and has planned a nationwide inactivated polio vaccine campaign for all children born between January 2016 and June 2018 across Ghana later this year.
