Angola completed the first phase of a preventative vaccination drive against polio September 8-11, according to the country’s official news agency. The drive targeted over 5 million children under age 5 in 16 of the country’s 18 provinces with oral polio drops and about 3.1 million children with vitamin A supplements. The second phase will also include Luanda and Huíla provinces. Additionally, the campaign aimed to reach 256,680 children with albendazole tablets in the areas with the highest occurrence of intestinal parasites—Lundas Norte, Lundas Sul, Malanje, and Uíge provinces.
