Asma Swaleh Ali, MD

Dr. Asma Swaleh Ali is a Senior Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Previously, she served as a Medical Officer at the World Health Organization, a member of the WHO Essential Emergency and Surgical Team, and Technical Officer to WHO Pakistan.

A Kenyan medical doctor and a public health practitioner, Dr. Ali has over 14 years’ experience in humanitarian response and coordination, public health and health leadership. Dr. Ali is an expert in designing and leading outbreak response operations, training, and surveillance of outbreak prone diseases. She is strongly committed to humanitarian services, equality, and quality of humanitarian responses. She has previously served as Medical Officer and a Medical Team Leader in Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Kenya, Mozambique, Pakistan, and Somalia. Her current area of speciality is polio eradication.
