Using Dr. Jane Seymour’s
The Impact of Public Health Awareness Campaigns on the Awareness and Quality of Palliative Care, the Coalition defines awareness as “communications based activities used to raise awareness, increase community engagement, and/or create a change in behavior.” Dr. Seymour is a Professor of Palliative and End-of-Life Care at The University of Sheffield. In this journal article, Seymour determines whether public health awareness campaigns effectively improve the awareness and quality of palliative care. She examines various international campaigns in countries such as the United States, Australia, and Canada. In doing so, she describes and defines terms like awareness and awareness campaigns.
