Emanuele Capobianco, MD, MPH

Emanuele Capobianco is a global health and humanitarian expert, currently serving as the Director of Global Health Security at Gavi.

Emanuele brings 25 years of experience in policy development and implementation of health programmes in low and middle-income countries with specific expertise in fragile settings, epidemics and maternal/child health. Before joining Gavi, Emanuele was Chief Strategy and Impact Officer at the World Health Organization (WHO) Foundation, where he led the set up of the Foundation. As Director of Health and Care at the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) from 2017 to 2021, Dr. Capobianco was the IFRC lead and spokesperson for the global health response to COVID19 and the emergency coordinator for the response to several Ebola outbreaks in DRC. Emanuele served as the Deputy Executive Director of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health and as Senior Policy Advisor with the Global Fund, coordinating the development of the 2017-2022 Global Fund Strategy and the first Global Fund policy on fragile settings. Emanuele worked with the World Bank, UNICEF and WHO in Mozambique, Somalia, Afghanistan and India where he managed programmes on communicable diseases, mother and child health, nutrition, and drug use prevention, treatment and care.

Emanuele holds a Medical Degree from Pavia, Italy, a Master in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and an Erasmus Mundus’ Master in International Humanitarian Action. He is the father of three girls, a passionate traveller and a (slow) triathlete.
