In late August, Pakistan kicked off a seven-day polio drive in Balochistan, and three-day drives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Lahore—targeting over 22.5 million children under age 5 with the oral vaccine. The country reported five more wild poliovirus type 1 cases (with three from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone) the week of August 28, bringing the total number of cases so far this year to 58, compared to 12 last year.
